Visit to King’s Gallery 20 June 2024

On a lovely sunny Thursday, 14 members of Gemini accompanied by 4 members of Apollo met for lunch and then enjoyed a most interesting tour of the King’s Gallery.

We started at the wonderfully named “Bag O Nails” pub which looks over one corner of the Buckingham Palace gardens and in which we had a private room.  This was a good thing because the noise of us all having our lunch was deafening!  It is a good way of telling if people are enjoying themselves – and the answer was that we were!  We had pre-ordered our food to speed the service along and that worked well even though you can find yourself eating food that you fancied when you ordered it (and feeling virtuous) and then seeing other plates that look far more interesting than your own on the day!

A short walk took us to the King’s gallery where the exhibition was photographs of the Royal Family over the years.  The exhibition was designed to show the different photographic techniques used by some of the famous royal photographers – such as Cecil Beaton, Antony Armstrong-Jones, Dorothy Wilding and Annie Leibovitz.  While this was in itself interesting, the best part was seeing some pictures of the Queen, and the rest of the family of course, that we had never seen before.

We spent a good hour there and then discovered that the entry ticket is valid for 12 months during which time there will be two more exhibitions so we can expect to spend a bit more time getting our fill of Culture!
